Under Romanian Water Law no. 107/1996, all drilling work must be authorised by the regional water basin administration.
Before work starts, an approval is required, accompanied by a hydrogeological study of the drilling area. An assessment by the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management is also needed, as well as a project file to obtain the exploration-exploitation approval.
